Why Bad is Good…

Why do we crave everything to go well for us? Why do we want treasures on Earth? Why do we crave a good life? What is it that we think we’ll gain?

When everything is working beautifully, we often turn our backs on the best there is.

Having an over abundance of blessings here leads us to feel self-sufficient. It takes our focus away from what matters and puts it on what pleases us.

When the sun is shining, we feel as if all is well, ignoring the coming darkness as if we’ve forgotten that every sun rise is followed by a sunset.

When we walk through life as if all of our needs are met, we forget we need someone to meet them.

It’s in times of pain that we turn to Him.

Times of trouble that we realize we are weak.

Moments of hopelessness that we seek the hope He offers.

“Why do bad things happen to good people?” is an oft asked question.

But when “good” people revel in earthly splendor, we’re merely setting the stage for the coming darkness.

Pain. Despair. Loneliness. Heartache. These are all the product of earthly happiness. For when we feel we have all we need, we turn our back on who we need.

And when we feel we can hold the sun in the sky all on our own, it will inevitably plunge into the sea.

Then, when the darkness is upon us… one by one… we turn to Him, the true source of all we need. It’s then that we realize, we can’t do it all on our own. We can’t “Just Do it!”

So, rejoice in your sufferings, celebrate your failures, take solace in your lacking, because where things are incomplete He will complete them.

We don’t need the sun to shine, we just need to recognize the shining Son.
